hello, i want to buy a  new 64gb microsd card, i dont know if its worthy to buy a fast one or if the reader is not capable of use the full speed of a good one. so if you have  a microsd and an acer w4 you could post your microsd brand and speed and a print of crystaldiskmark with the speed, so we could know the actual speed that the microsd card reader support.

thank you all

Have you tried using a USB 3.0 compatible card reader on the USB port? I don't know if the USB 3.0 controller is faster than the SD host controller or not (I think it's basically the same controller the eMMC uses). I realise you wouldn't want your SD card on the USB port, but it's worth testing to see if there's a difference. I don't have a 3.0 reader or I would test it myself.

But we have a usb 2.0 port, even if we put a  usb 3.0 reader, it will be limited by the speed of the usb 2.0 port of the tablet, wont it?

anyway i want to use it mainly in the sd reader, thats why i want to know the maximun speed of it, if someone have a speedy micro sd card and cn try the reader it would be great to know if it support a high speedy micro sd

No, the W4 has a USB 3.0 (xHCI) controller. It's of course USB 2.0 compatible, but it's indeed a USB 3.0 port.

Wowww what a sorprise! I didnt knew that (im new with the tablet) but you made me very happy!. I always read in the reviews that it was 2.0 and i thought they were physically diferent (like the micro usb 3.0 port of the note 3). Is it activated by default?? Or do we have to do something?? Thanks a lot

Anyway I will use the micro sd it with the reader and would like to know how much speed it can reach.

If you go into device manager and scroll all the way down to the bottom you can see there is only one USB controller and it's labelled "Intell(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)".

yes, i noticed that, but since in the official specifications they say it has usb 2.0 i thought that was more accurate. but if you google usb 3.0 the pictures you see is a port of a different shape of our.

Anyway, it would be a bad idea if someone has a usb 3.0 flash memory or hdd they can do also the test to see if the reach more speed than a usb 2.0. If we have a 3.0 port that would be a really good new for me!

USB 3.0 isn't a different shape. On some full size ports they use blue plastic if the port is "SuperSpeed" capable. Some "SuperSPeed" devices (not hosts) have a different shaped end; I don't know the technical name of it.

I know in normal usb the only difference is the color (in appearance) but in micro usb it usually has a different shape (like 2 ports in one). Has you tested the speed of our usb with a 3.0 device?. I dont get why acer promote it as usb 2.0 instead of a usb 3.0

I just looked into USB 3.0 a little more and I think the reason Acer only promotes it as USB 2.0 is because the W4's MicroUSB port does not contain the SuperSpeed data pins. So even though the W4 does have a USB 3.0 controller, there's no way to access it as USB 3.0 since the pins aren't present. SuperSpeed ports have 9 pins total. That's a bit dissapointing.

Sorry for jumping the gun on that one. :/

    Thank you plastixx

There is anyone else that can test the speed of the reader with a microsd?
