Losing Webcam Connection

Aspire M5-481PT running Windows 8.1.

Acer Crystal Eye finds the builtin webcam (HD Webcam), then reports, "The connection to your webcam was lost."

Device Manager says the device is working properly. Already uninstalled/reinstalled.

Any ideas on how to retain the webcam connection?

Are you still within the warranty period?

    Thank you for replying.

No, I don't believe my PC is still under warranty.

You can first try to re-seat  the video cam ribbon cable on the connectors behind the screen and on the motherboard. Unfortunately, the keyboard, screen bezel and screen have to be loosened. Make sure the battery is out and no ac power if you attempt this. Also, if you have a habit of opening and closing the screen lid a lot, it's also possible a conductor trace on the ribbon has open-circuited. Usually happens in the congested hinge area. New cables are relatively inexpensive.

Thank you, again. Do you know if instructions for opening the laptop are available online?

You can try this  as a guide from a similar model.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw1pj_vvDXE

Thank you. The video was very clear. I don't think I'll attempt it just yet.

You've been very helpful. I appreciate your advice.
