Ferrari 5000 froze - bricked?

I have an old Ferrari 5000 laptop, still looks impressive after all these years.

Unfortunately last week the laptop just froze while playing Pandora. Screen and sound froze and laptop has become completely unresponsive. I've forced it off, and it has never turned back on since then.

When I turn it on, I hear the fan running for a moment and HD spinning, the power button lights up, as well as the power diode, and that's all the laptop does. Nothing appears on the screen, no reaction to keyboard (not even CapsLock diode) or any other button than power. Pressing power again just turns it off immediately.

I've tried swapping memory modules, removing them altogether, removing HD - I even took the entire laptop apart and looked for signs of physical damage - none.

Is this a brick, or is there a way to ressurect the laptop? Please help!

If you hook an external display to it, can you see anything on the external display? If may be that the LCD panel has failed. It could also be another hardware problem, or mainboard problem. You may try contacting your local Acer tech support, to see if there are any repair options available for that system.

I did not try to hook it up to anoter display. I mean: even if LCD fails, the CapsLock led should work - it doesn't. The same with other buttons like bluetooth or wifi. Under normal circumstances, Power button will not immediately turn the laptop off.

I am afraid it must be the 'another hardware problem' - possibly the mainboard. Is the mainboard somehow available for purchase from Acer? I am in Pennsylvania, USA - what would be my contact to local tech support?

    Thanks.

Honestly, your best bet for purchasing a mainboard for this system is through one of our parts partners listed below.

Thank you for the links. Unfortunately all of those vendors are out of Ferrari 5000 mainboards. No luck... Smiley Frustrated
