There is no sound from my Aspire One D260. Virus scan had removed 3 trojan viruses and after that I had no sound from the netbook. Also the hardware status shows no sound card installed and in device managers audio drivers location is shown as unknown. Using Win XP Home Edtn

    Tried installing the audio drivers but still there is no sound. Also the realtek audio drivers do not show in the device manager instead device manager is showing Legacy audio drivers with location unknown.

     on Device Manager, right click on the Legacy audio and choose uninstall, reboot and install Realtek drivers.

    Can you check on device manager about hidden hardware?

    pressi View/show hidden devices

    and check on Sound if only legacy audio is available.

    Check  this too:

    Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Adminstrative Tools->Services

    Then locate in the list of services "Windows Audio". Open this service

    If this service is showing with a Startup type set to Disabled then Select "Automatic" from the drop down list then hit apply. Then click the "Start" button.

    If this service is showing with a Startup type set to Manual then Select "Automatic" from the drop down list then hit apply. Then click the "Start" button.

    No other ideas apart doing a restore of last know working configuration or a restore to factory default.
