Acer 8943G processor upgrade?

My current 8943G uses an Intel i5-450M, which is a bit slow for my liking. Is it possible to upgrade the processor? I've found a selection of Intel mobile processors which have the right socket and are within my price range but I don't know if they are compatible. I'm looking at the i7-740QM/i7-720QM, and the i7-2670QM (due to having found fairly good deals on them).

Ideally though, I'd appreciate if there was just a list of compatible processors anywhere...?

Also, are Acre processors welded/fixed to the motherboard, or can they be easily removed?

    Good day

Your CPU is a socket PGA988 and the following CPU's will work on your machine. The CPU can be removed as its not welded on the mainboard.

    i7-820QM

    i7-620M (Socket BGA1288 and PGA988)

    i7-720QM

    i7-740QM

i7-2670QM is socket FCPGA988. To summarise: PGA988 for Clarksfield, FCPGA988 for Sandy Bridge and you CANNOT upgrade Clarksfield to Sandy bridge.

Brilliant, thank you very much Smiley Happy

For future reference, is there any website or such where I can check compatibility in the future? And does it bottle down to socket types and chipset in terms of compatibility?
