First, I'm not a techie...I'm living in a rural area caring for an elderly parent so having to try to resurrect my laptop with your help. My computer started running slow a month ago and thought maybe had virus or malware. Worked with antivirus company's tech support and all was well from their end. I then switched from IE to Firefox which seemed to help a bit. Last week a blue screen flashed and all I could see was something about disk dump at the bottom. Then it automatically ran CHKDSK and restarted working fine until Fri. evening. Shortly after I logged in with my password, blue screen came up then a black screen that said Operating System not found at the bottom.  I googled this and have tried running a Repair disc I created on someone's computer. I powered up laptop, hit F12, made CD/DVD 1st, it said Windows is installing files for a while then reverted back to Acer logo page with F2 and F12 options at bottom. Then tried running Partition Wizard from CD burnt on someone's computer. Popped up error message re: server. Lastly, I attempted Alt + F10 said Windows loading files, then Windows starting, then ERROR: Invalid partition type! Fail to get PQSERVICE drive! I clicked OK and it just would keep popping up Acer logo page and then black page alternating several times until computer shut down. So here I am begging for help! I only have access through my Kindle to you. OS is Windows 7. Let me know what other info I can relay. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    OGCoffeeGirl,

I would like to say I'm sorry to hear your Aspire 7540 is having these problems. The problem you are describing can be one or two things: Corrupt Partition, or a bad HDD.

If the partition is corrupt then I would suggest contacting our technical support in your region to help get recovery media so you may be able to restore your computer to factory default settings.

If recovery media fails, then the problem is the HDD and needs to be replaced.

Thank you, Ryan. How would I know if a partition is corrupt? If I don't have recovery media,is there anything I can do?  I never knew anything about creating a disk before this happened to my laptop.

The symptoms you are describing may indicate a corrupt partition and I am not 100% sure that is the problem. However, you are experiencing a technical problem and would need recovery media or repair. I believe the least costly of the two would be to visit the Acer Store and purchase recovery media, and then if that does not work have it looked at by technical or contact technical support in your region.
