Can I replace the WiFi card in my Acer V5-571P?

Question

I rcently Purchased my Acer V5 thinking it would have full WiDi functionality based on its Intel Processor. I quickly found out you need an Intel Centrino card. The wireless card Atheros AR5BWB222 is such a unpredicatable card with Windows 8.1. After my Acer falls asleep, it kicks me off the internet. I have to reboot to connect again. Yes I have tried so many drivers to get it to work and nothing ever does.

So I purchased a nice Centrino card, dual band to work with my router. only to find out that Acer has some type of Whitelist on Its motherboards that prevent me from upgrading my WiFi card. Is this true? Can I install a centrion card in my V5? Why are you not keeping up with the casting age. The future is here and peole want to know about widi and miracast on their machines. I will say this. My miracast worked beautifully on this V5 until windows 8.1. I lost all functionality. How are you going to fix that Acer.

Very disappointed in a company that doesnt have a support email address in plain view. When I use your online chat, the respresentative juust goes round and round about any issue you pose. They can never answer anything except for remedial questions. They're not tech support. They read from a script and if you get them away from their script they panic.

Well from the looks of 1000's of posts online your Atheros wifi driver .276 does not work at all. I have better luck with 10.0.0.75 or .224 or.225 . What's your response to that. the drivers worked perfectly fine in Windows 8 but as soonas I installed 8.1 my functionlity was limited. I am so tired of rebooting just to get my internet back. Yes my routers fine both my pc and mac work beautifully on the 900 dual band. Yes I have gone back to factory install. I do not want to reconfigure and reinstall software yet again just to appease Acers script of what to try before they want me to send my laptop back in only to have them screw my machine up anymore and run the risk of anything happening as listed by your fine print when sending the machine into your repair center.

I was cutoff from help as my warranty expired three days ago. i have been working on a few issues with my laptop for a year now with no resolution. 3 days ago I chatted with a supervisor and he said it was possible the wrong chipset drivers where placed on the downoad center but listed as the new ones. she said she would get back to me and I have not heard from anyone. She said to check back and download the chipset drivers again to see if the situation had been rectify and just as you would expect nothing has been done.

Word of mouth is not Acer's marketing forte.

I am sorry to hear that you have not had the best experience with our online-chat support. If that is not to your liking, I would recommend contacting our phone support for assistance.

As for your situation, you should not have lost any function of your computer by upgrading to Windows 8.1. However, if you lost a function this should be resolved in later released versions of the driver for your WLAN card.  We only support some upgrades depending on the product and model. In most cases the only thing that is determined user replaceable is the memory or the HDD.
