    Hi....

If you have not made any changes to the factory shipped operating system  or hardware on your computer, you have the option to restore your computer using Acer recovery management.

During the system recovery process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend you backup your personal data before starting the recovery process.

Use the following steps to start the system recovery:

Restart the computer, When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt, and the F10 keys.

If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
After the Acer eRecovery Management application has loaded, select your restore type.
Read the notice, and then click Next when you are ready.
Click Next to begin the restore process.

The restore can take anywhere from 10 minutes up to an hour. Your computer may reboot several times during this process. After everything is complete your computer will be like it was when you first purchased it.

The password requested is "Empowering Technology password" ,

Option 2 is "Restore system from user's backup/" which is greyed out

Opion 3 is "restore system from CD/DVD"- - No dvd or cd was provided when i baught the laptop

    option 4 is "EXIT"

so option 1 "Restore system to factory default" looks reasbale to attempt, but prompts for "Empowering Technology password"  which i do not posses, any help is appreciated

    cheers

    Hello CHET,

Check in the bios setup utility (m or F2), if the first boot priority is the HDD.

    Hello CHET,

Do you have the Phoenix TrustedCore Setup Utility on you laptop?

If yes, you should see the HDD model after IDE HDD:----------.

Try to load "Setup Defaults" [F9] in the Bios setup utility.
