Windows 7 Home Premium

2 year old Aspire been working fine, but yesterday...

  • Turn on and the “ACER” screen appears; then
  • The “Starting Windows” screen appears; then
  • The “Acer, Windows Home Premium” logon (password) screen appears;
  • Upon entering password (either for Admn or Daily user accounts), the “Welcome” screen blinks once and then re-appears for approximately 25 seconds but the “Start Screen” never appears:  the screen goes blank (black or very dark blue) and the mouse or keyboard has no effect.

I use Control/Alt/Delete to access Task Mgr to shut down.

What do I do:

  1. Run Windows 7 System Recovery mode?
  2. Run Acer eRecovery Management  program outside of Windows?
  3. Run Acer eRecovery Management program?
  4. Ship to Acer for repair?

I am not highly proficient in computer skills.

    hi..

You may first try to perform a power reset:
Unplug the AC adapter from your notebook.Turn the notebook over to remove the battery.
Turn the notebook back over and open it.Hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then release the power button.
Turn the notebook back over and slide the battery back into place.Slide the lock tab back into the lock position.
Turn over the notebook one last time and plug in your AC adapter.Turn on your notebook.

If the issue persists try to boot the computer in safe mode by pressing the F8 key when you power ON the computer and disable the start up items if you are able to login and then restart your computer in normal mode.

If the issue persists you may perform a recovery from outside windows.
During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process..

Use the following steps to start the system recovery:
    Restart the computer.
When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt, and the F10 keys.
If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
After the Acer eRecovery Management application has loaded, select your restore type.
Read the notice, and then click Next when you are ready.
Click Next to begin the restore process.

Before I received your suggestion, I did a Windows Startup Repair which indicated no errors; so I then did a System Restore and think I have the system back up. But thanks anyway.... afterwards I did a full battery recharge and then decided to remove the batter since I normally use the AC power when running. William
