Aspire V5 171 does not start - recovery does not work - required partition missing

Hi,

The V5 171 of my GF tries to repair filesystem on every power on, but never finishes.

BIOS can be entered and edited.

All options on the blue screen menus (change startup options, safe mode booting etc.) are not working.

System recovery does also not work. It says that a required partition is missing.

Even trying to boot from a GHOST CD (external USB CDR drive) does not work (seems not to recognize the CDR drive).

The hard-drive is readable (I have connected it to my PC via an USB-SATA adapter ande copied the C: partition for backup).

Anything else I could try?

***Edit: Recovery is offered for WIN 8.1 and fails with above mentioned error (partition missing). BUT: Original OD was WIN 8. It was upgraded to 8.1 directly after purchase. Is recovery partition missing, because the system wants to recover 8.1 with the recovery partition only offering WIN 8? Unfortunately the recovery menu only offers me 8.1.

End of edit***

Regards,

Gerd

    hi...

The recovery partition seems to be corrupted on your computer, you need to use the recovery disc that you have created or purchase the recovery disc from Acer store to restore the computer. it will install the Operating System, all the pre-installed Software and the drivers of your system.

If you have a unit from US or Canada, you may purchase the recovery disc from Acer store :Acer Store , you may also live chat with an Acer technician at :  Acer live chat
If you have purchased the computer in any other country, you may contact Acer support here : Acer Global Support

    Hi,

    Thanky for the prompt reply!

Wouldn't I need to boot the purchased recovery disc from the USB CDR drive, where it did not boot the GHOST CD?

***EDIT: I had to disable UEFI in order to boot from the GHOST CD.

Can I download a recovery disk shomewhere?

    End of edit***

    hi..

The recovery application is not avaliable fro download since it it unique for each computer. Unique eRecovery Media CD sets are generated per specific request based on model type

You need to disable secure boot to boot from CD.

    1. Completely shut down your computer.
    2. Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.
    3. Use the right arrow key to select Security.
    4. Use the down arrow key to highlight Set Supervisor Password and press Enter.
    5. Create a password and press Enter. Retype the password to confirm and press Enter again.
    6. Use the right arrow key to select Boot.
    7. Press the down arrow key to select Secure Boot and press Enter.
    8. With the arrow key, highlight Disabled and press Enter.
    9. Press the F10 key and select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

We suggest removing the supervisor password immediately after enabling Secure Boot. If you choose not to remove your supervisor password, make sure you write it down for future use.
