Aspire 7000

After installing:

- Bios 1.20

- 2.5Gb memory

- Crucial 120Gb SSD

- Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

I have a hardware device driver missing.

Device is described as "Mass Storage Controller" and location is "PCI bus 4, device 6, function 2", but no drivers available.

Any help much appreciated.

F.Y.I. the Crucial SSD only works from Cold-start and 2.5Gb RAM is the max that can be installed (not 4Gb as claimed in specs) - think this is a Bios 1.20 problem.

What exactly are you trying to do?

    Does Windows see the SSD?

The BIOS listed on Acer's site is from 2008. At this point, I doubt they would release a new BIOS for this system.

    Hi Clyde,

    A couple of points -

The Acer Aspire 7004WSMi is decsribed as being 64bit ready and up to 4Gb RAM, so I wanted to "upgrade" from Vista to Win 7 Ultimate 64bit and from 1Gb RAM to 4Gb RAM ;-)

Unfortunately the bios version 1.10 didn't want to know anything of 64 bit operating system, it did although accept 4Gb of RAM. Changing the PCI SATA HDD to a SSD just made things worse, it just simply woldn't do anything with the SSD !

So, I upgraded the Bios (from Acers support Webside) -

Now, SSD was supported, but only from cold-start, win 7 Ultimate 64 bit is supported, BUT - now I can't boot with 4Gb RAM in the Laptop and can only boot from a complete shutdown. I can boot with 2Gb and even with 2Gb - 1 (old) 500Mb memory module, but when I try to boot with 2 x 2Gb modules, the curser just comes up with a blinking cursor in upper left corner.

    Status is now:

Bios 1.20, cold start from SSD with Win 7 64bit with 2.5Gb RAM

I would like to find a bios upgrade that supports 4Gb RAM and SSD.

    Any ideas is much appreciated.
