Hello

What sort of connector do I need to connect to the spdif/headphone output on my Aspire 9300. Is it optical or coax output and probably more important, how do I get digital audio to work.

Thanks

You would connect a S/Pdif cable to the Headphones/speaker/line-out jack as it has S/PDIF support. Then connect that to your digital audio source. Also make sure to go into your notebooks sound settings and set the digital output as your default sound device.

There are some videos I found on youtube myself that gives you a visual of how they performed their setup. I just searched "Headphone SPDIF output" and found some good videos.
