Hello jrscholz,
There are 3 OS for the Aspire 5315:
- Windows XP (Windows XP recovery media are no longer supported)
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
Otherwise for the others OS, you can order eRecovery media by phone or by e-mail to Customer Service:
- On the Support tab, search using Keywords: Recovery using CDs or DVDs
- Click on the link Customer Service
- To send an e-mail click on Customer Care
- Normally, you see this page Ask a Question
For USA, contact Acer support by Live Chat.

When I contacted live chat, they told me I needed to purchase an OS - they could not provide the recovery media.
When I emailed customer service, I got this response:
"Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Unfortunately, we no longer have the Recovery Media for this unit. You may be able to get them from our Parts Partner, Capital Data. You can contact them by calling 800.999.4409."
It's very disconcerting that Acer - the manufacturer of the device - would stop providing the recovery media.0 -
I guess you have windows XP. Windows XP recovery media are no longer supported.
The last solution is an ISO file of your windows version (free) and the Acer drivers.

No - Windows Vista was installed on this machine.
In any case how would I get this ISO? I can believe the ISO would be free, however wouldn't the OS need a product key unless it's part of the recovery media?0 -
Well have you bought it in an other country?
I don't understand because Windows Vista is always supported.

No - I purchased it here. Probably Wal-Mart. But because it was about 6 years ago, it seems that Acer isn't isn't interested in supporting it anymore?0

Ok. you'll see in this topic a member who installed an ISO file with a pre-installed license. It works!
In France, we downloaded the ISO files on DownFlex. I think you'll find the similar website in your country.
