Replacing F1 key on Aspire One D255E

Hello,

I am fixing someone else Aspire One whereas some of the keyboard keys do not work. While checking the keyboard connection I had to pop off the keyboard and the F1 key came off by mistake. Even though my advice to the person is to replace the keyboard, I would like to give it back to them in the same condition as before.

The problem is I can not figure out how the clip is supposed to go back on. It is very dainty and I notice 3 parts to it. A plastic clip, a ring and the key itself. I was not able to find specific instruction to put the key back on for this particular style of clip.

Does the clip get attached to the keyboard first, then put the ring over the white push switch and attempt to snap the key in place? The large side of the clip faces up or down? I would like some pics or a video to show how to install a function key with this specific type of clip because it is not the same as others I have seen.

I figured out that the center of the plastic clip must have broke away as that should be one piece. Attempted to glue that plastic clip back together and mounted it on the keyboard but could not get the key to click into place. Since I do not care about replacing the F1 key in the future (Imo whole keyboard needs replacing) I am attempting to fix it with a dab of glue to adhere the bottom of the key to the top of the white push tab on the keyboard. If it does not stick then I have another makeshift idea using a samll spring that fits over the white push tab. Basically I am pulling a MacGyver to fix this thing.. Cat Wink

Well i have a D257 ,when replacing the HHD some how the coma/colan key came lose ,just sort of floats a round -tried just lining it up an giving push to lock it in- didn't work (: ,new keyboards are $12 plus shipping - so far just living with it - maybe I'll try a dab of model clue ....have any other ideas i could try?

I ended up using a small spring that I cut with tin snips to an appropriate size. I glued the spring to the white push tab and then the button to the spring. Weatherstripping adhesive worked very well as it is rubbery/flexible. The F1 key is a tiny bit stiff compared to the rest due to the spring but it does work quite well. I got the spring from an allen key set.. the type that comes on a large key ring whereas I was able to select the proper size/diameter for the spring.
