Acer A100 - power button quit

The power button quit last week - I couldn't power off nor turn on the screen after it idled for a while. My son set the volume button to turn on the screen so I could still use it, but I couldn't turn the tablet completely off.

After a week of this, my tablet appears to be dead - the screen won't turn on at all even though it is fully charged.

I should be getting a new tablet in the next few days, but I NEED what is on my old tablet. What can I do to access it?

Use a USB cord to connect it to a PC. With the appropriate driver installed that will let you copy everything off it.

Have you attempted an extra long press on the power button, up to maybe 20 seconds ? In some instances android tablets can go in to a "stasis" and appear to be dead, in some cases the extra long press on the power button has done the trick.

I tried a long press on the power button for 20 seconds, but it didn't work. Tried it 4 times - still no power. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You say that the tablet is fully charged, how can you be sure ? In some cases the charging plug/adapter to connect to the AC malfunctions and the battery in the device becomes totally discharged, giving the appearance if a dead device. Have you connected using USB to a laptop or PC to check ?

I tried the USB cord this morning - my desktop doesn't even acknowledge that the USB is plugged in, my tablet doesn't show up & the tablet didn't come on. I was so in hopes that it would. Thanks for the suggestion.

I charged it up yesterday morning - the power button showed orange, but I didn't notice any color later.

 

However, I did call a repair shop this morning & was told that it isn't the power button that is bad - it is the motherboard or programming. He said it is a common problem with the Acer A100. He said it could be repaired, but the problem would probably occur again later. And my info is unretrievable.

Sounds very much like what happened to my A700 about a month or so ago. Fortunately it was still under warranty and so I sent it to Acer and they replaced the motherboard.
