Optimus Issue - Aspire V7-482pg-9884

Hi all,

No matter how I set things in the NVIDIA control panel, I cannot get my programs to use the 750M GPU. It seems to always use the integrated graphics. Can anyone help me out with this?

You should be able to change which GPU it is using by following the instructions at http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32163

Just checked it out. I'm familiar with how to modify NVIDIA settings for individual programs. The problem appears to be with a specific program - in this case, Diablo III. No matter how I select the game/modify the settings, the game uses the integrated graphics instead of my 750M. Interestingly, NVIDIA GPU monitor says that my GPU is running hte game, but the game's debug file and the in-game performance both indicate that I am running off of integrated.

If you have any other ideas, I'm all ears. I've tried quite a bit :/

Try to set it global to Nvidia. But if the GPU monitor is indicating that the Nvidia GPU is indeed running the Diablo III executable than it is really running it.

I've tried that one as well. No avail.

As for the indicator, it has to be a bug of some kind. I can confirm the game is absolutely not running on the GPU. The framerate is way too low for the GPU's benchmark, and the actual debug text log of the game shows that it is opening with Intel Integrated.

There is another way to run a executable on a specific GPU. Go to Nvidia preferences and check the menu option to show a context menu item in the file explorer context menu. I don't know as what this menu point is indicated in english or your language, because I'm german and use the german version of Windows.

After that, go to the directory of the game, right click on the executable and select run with Nvidia GPU. You should make sure that in fact you are not only running some kind of loader program that is executing the real binary. ;-)

Appreciate the fast responses and ideas Smiley Happy

I have already tried enabling the ability to select the executable with right click, and attempting to run it with the GPU. With this method, I have run the executable both through a launcher and directly. Neither one changes the results I get.

It's a good thread, and I'm actually one of the people who contributed several times to it Smiley Tongue Unfortunately, none of the fixes in there have worked for me thus far.

It seems like certain laptops are having the issue, while others are getting fixed by it. I came here because I was wondering if it was something about my particular model that was having a problem with it.

What exactly have you done from the suggestions of this thread? Repeat the steps in a list and post it.

    Relating to drivers:

I have installed and tested the following:

The recommended drivers on the Acer download site

The latest drivers from Nvidia's site

Recommended drivers from a Nvidia representative.

All of the above were done with clean installs each time.

Updated to the latest BIOS from Acer's website

    Relating to workarounds:

I have tried creating a shortcut with the -launch command and running that with the NVIDIA GPU right click.

I have tried going in with Nvidia Inspector and playing with the optimus settings for the program that way ("enable application for optimus," "SHIM Rendering Mode Options per application for Optimus," etc.) Most of these fixes have been outlined in the thread you linked earlier from the D3 forums.

I have tried just universally setting my GPU to be my 750M.

I have tried playing with in-game options, compatibility settings, etc. etc.

I think that encompasses everything I've done. If you have any other ideas, I am all ears Smiley Happy

So far as I can see, this is an application issue. Not really related to your device. But there are so many customers with this problem that I think Blizzard is working on a fix. By the way, have you tried this: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/11913302274?page=23#457

That was my interpretation as well. I just wanted to explore as many possible avenues as possible. Thank you for your input.
