stuck when doing system restore

My Acer Aspire V3 571 6643 was working perfectly until I did the recent updates for
Windows on 5/16/14. I was working on the computer a half hour later, translating an
Italian webpage with Bing’s online translator when I lost the click function. I could move
the cursor but not click on anything. I tried C Alt D but could not click on task manager. I
pulled the battery and restarted but it still would not work but I noticed I could click with
the enter key.  I tried to restart a few times and then called the chat and the person said
I had pretty much done all the easy steps so needed advanced help. I did mange to get
msconfig up with the enter key but she didn’t try to use it and I didn’t know what to do.
I didn’t have time to do the advanced help so she gave me a link to do system restore and
when I tried to do that, it got stuck on setup is starting services. I tried numerous ways to
get out of this but it keeps coming back. I even tried to restore disks at this stage and am
willing to wipe the drive to get it working as it is less than two years old.

Please advise and thanks in advance for your help.

Did you try an external mouse to see if this problem was only touchpad related?
