Battery not charging, and updated my BIOS to 1.21

I have an Aspire 5741.  I have a problem with battery not charging.  I have recently downloaded and run the new BIOS 1.21.  I have tried power management update.  Still even with a brand new battery purchased 5200 mAh 11.1v (note previous versions was a 4400 mAh and 48w 10.8v battery, which the laptop says was charging, even though in reality nothing seemed to be happening), the laptop battery light is slowly flashing orange, and battery icon says 'not charging'.

So i also wonder have i purchased the wrong type of battery, but it does say it replaces a AS10D31 which the old battery was.

Help - i cant run in a new battery, if i cant get it to charge.  Any bright suggestions out there?

Andrew

The issue may not be the battery, but the AC adapter or the power system in the notebook.

Just to say that problem now appears to be sorted, as the battery i ordered appeared to be faulty, and the replacement battery is now properly charging.  So phew problem solved.

Glad to hear it was easily resolved with a replacement battery!
