Aspire S3-391 Black screen issue / uninstallable display driver

Hello,

After a recent Windows 7 update (it did it automatically and restarted while I wasn't around) my built in display won't work in Windows. The display works just fine, as it works in the BIOS and in the System repair etc. but once it gets beyond the first splash screen it just wont fire up.

I have done the usual troubleshooting (and have been using computers since the age of ST/AT and 286 PC:s and built about 10 of them with different systems) so this is really strange

I'm able to connect the computer to an external monitor via HDMI so I'm able to see what's happening.

I've uninstalled the drivers (both the display driver and monitor driver) and once it boots up it works at first, at a lower resolution, but once it recognizes the display adapter and/or monitor and goes to install them (I suppose at least that that's what it's doing, as that usually is the case) the screen blinks (as usual) but doesn't come back from its black state.

I've updated all drivers and everything is working fine, except for this "small" annoyance that makes my ultrabook quite unusable...

The weird thing is that the display driver for Intel HD 3000 that the Acer Support provides for this computer is uninstallable on this computer as it says "This computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements....".

I don't know if the display driver is the problem here as it seems to work fine with all other monitors but the internal "mobile PC display".

Going manually to the Device Manager and installing that way doesn't work either.

I sencerely hope that this can be fixed as it's a fine piece of computer that I would hate to throw in the bin just because of a crappy driver....

And still: Acer Updater is trying to install once in a while an update for the Core i3 processor that isn't supported for this type of processor... (Intel i3-2337 ME Driver version 8.0.10.1464)
