Bluray drive not reading latest movies

I have an Aspire M5021, while the blue ray drive reads relativley old bluray movies (Planet of the Apes) it won't read the latest movies (Captain Philips or Rush). Has anything changed with bluray disks? Is there a firmware update I can get? The drivers are up to date.

Thanks

If you are using the Acer bundled Blur-Ray/DVD software, please make sure it is updated to the most current version. If the media is still not playing back, then it would be a firmware issue and would have to be updated. These firmware upgrades are usually available from the manufacture of the drive.

You should be able to find the model of the drive from your Device Manager. Once you find the model try searching online to determine the manufacture, then visit their support page to see if they have any available firmware upgrades.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm running Cyberlink PowerDVD10 and have updated the firmware from Liteon to the latest revision - still will not look at Blu-ray.

I've tried a borrowed external blu-ray reader/writer which works fine.

I guess as far as blu-ray is concerned the drive is U/S.

    Thanks again.

If you are able to read other discs, then that would imply the drive is working and there is not a hardware issue. I see you have updated the software and firmware of the drive and still unable to play the media. This may mean that the manufacture of the drive has not yet updated the firmware to play the newer movies and the manufacture of the drive is the source for any firmware updates on blu-ray drives.
