Hey everyone I am hoping someone can help me. My son has the following Acer computer:

Acer AM3450-UR10P (PT.SHDP2.004) Desktop PC AMD FX-Series FX-8100 (2.8GHz) 6GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. I recently bought him a new power supply and video card. When we installed the video card the computer will not boot up. I brought it to a computer guy I know and he is telling me that even after updating BIOS he cannot get the video card to work. The card I bought is :

PowerColor AX7870 2GBD5-2DHV5E/OC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 V5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card

It shows that it should be compatible with the ACER but the computer will not boot up with it in. Can someone please help! if this card is not compatible does anyone know one that is in comparison that would work?

    jenn5120,

I am happy to hear you are expanding on our product to make it better for your sons wants and needs and would like to provide some suggestions. We haven't tested this product in this configuration and cannot guarantee that it will work however please try the following:

Enter the BIOS and under Advanced Chipset Configuration -> Primary Video, change it from Auto to PCIE. And while you are in the BIOS, I would suggest making sure the Onboard Graphics Controller is set to Disabled under Integrated Peripherals. After you save your changes and exit the BIOS, upon rebooting try entering the BIOS again. If the BIOS shows, then we know the system recognizes the graphics card.

Try booting into Windows now. If you are still having problems, I would best it is driver related and if that is the case you would need to enter Safe mode and uninstall your current graphics driver. After the drivers are uninstalled and any old AMD software, exit Safe mode by restarting the computer and it should boot into Windows. Once you are in Windows, visit AMDs website for the correct drivers.
