Problem turning on and charging on W3-810

I have a problem with my new Iconia W3 (got only two weeks ago).

Yesterday for the first time I could not turn it on. The battery was not empty (around 20/25%) but neverthless it did not boot. I plugged the charger, but it still did not turn on. Then I tried with severals combinations of buttons, I tried to reset the machine with a paper clip in the little reset hole... finally the W3 started, even if I do not remember which action I made.
But it was in an instable state, because after short the display turned again off. I tried again to reset, then I saw the BIOS and after exiting from the BIOS I restarted the iconia and finally I got windows. Then I could work with the Iconia for 2-3 hours.

This morning I charged again the W3... after 5 Hours the led was blu, but the bottom of the Iconia hot... I did not rember it was hot in the past 2 weeks. Well, again I could not turn it on.... only after a reset and bios call (pressing turnon button + volume) I got again my windows ... but stil in an instable state.
I had to reboot several time till the iconia started to work fine... but I fear till the next charge.

Anyway it seems that after calling the BIOS setting panel, even if without changes, the Iconia start to work again in a normal way.

I have also the impression that the back of the iconia, behind the acer text si getting warmer during the work... I did not remark it before.

Reading the community I remarked I am not alone with that kind of problems. Any suggestion?

I'm guessing you are having problem waking from the sleep state. IIRC there was a BIOS update that cleared that issue up. Which BIOS are you running? Check that against the support site and make sure you are current. In the mean time a power cycle should get you up when the problem happens. Press and hold the power button for ten seconds or longer. Wait annother ten seconds or so and turn the tablet on normally. It should boot up and allow you to log in, though any applications you had running when you put the tablet down will have to be restarted.

    hi...

If the tablet still powers on, run Acer Live Update (ALU) to install BIOS 1.07 or later.

    To check the BIOS version.
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
Enter run in the search box, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click Run.
Then type msinfo32 and hit the Enter key.
In the System Information window, click System Summary and locate your current BIOS Version/Date to the right.

    Thank you for you reply.

I have the BIOS 1.07. How can I update to the last version?

Strange that in standby in only 3 hous  the chrage went from 87% to 40%. Is it normal?

At moment the W3 is running fine, but I fear you are right with the sleep state.

Is the BIOS is not intended or specify that its to correct that issue dont change it you may cause more problems that solutions.

I will get the unit back to factory values, if the issue persist send it to service if not that was a configuration issue.

Measure the voltage that you unit is consuming, make sure the baterie pack is not damage or wore out this is easy with a battery performance software.

Run simple test like stress test on the unit

It may be simpler that you think...

I think I'm narrowing the problem.

Half an hour ago while I was reading the forum I remarked that the back cover of the Iconia was getting more and more hot.

I do not remember that the W3 was getting warm during the run. I have an iPad and a Galaxy too, but both do not get hot during the run (just for CPU-heavy apps).

Well, back to the W3, while I was trying to write in this forum suddenly I got an hardware reset of the Iconia, the green boot logo appears, the front camera led flashed and the charge led was blue. When win8.1 started I got a new hardware reset... and got no chance to let it run.

Then I waited 10 minutes till the temperature of the back cover went back... and then I could start it again...

Now the W3 is running... the battery is getting hot... and maybe in one ore I will get the next hardware reset.

I think definitive it is a battery problem. What do you think?

Did you run automatic updates just to make sure you have the latest Bios update? Baterry can be defective you may want to do a health check on it. Other than that I would think on MB.

What do you mean with automatic updates? The windows update? If yes, then I run the standard windows 8.1 update.

My Bios is the 1.07, I think it is the last one. How can I run a bios update?

How can I check the healt of the battery? Any suggestion?

I got my Iconia with the bios 1.07 and did not change any settings. Yes they are the original factory settings (my W3 is only 2 weeks old).

Thank you for the very useful video on the battery check.
