How can I determine the monitor resolutions supported by my computer?

I have an Acer Aspire S3 Series notebook computer (Model MS2346). I'd like to buy a monitor to use with it. It is my understanding, however, that not all computers can support all monitors at their highest resolution. Is that true? And if it is true, then how do I determine the capabilities of my computer?

It depends on which S3 you want. Look at one on their site and find out what type of graphics chip it has. The one I looked at was Intel HD 4000. Then you can look up the specs for that chip. When I looked it up, it showed 2560 x 1600 as max resolution.
