W510 dock and general impressions (possible new batch?)

Hey all,

So I ordered my dock for my 32gb w510 on 12/31 - received it today.  Just wnted to post my initial impressions as well as things I've experienced with the w510 over the past week since.

w510 - whenever multitasking within desktop mode - I've had the tablet completley freeze multiple times, only way to fix is to hard reset by holding power button.  I've also had the sound cutting out issue multiple times, only way to fix is reboot.  Since installing the new drivers, rebooting, rebooting again (it reinstalled things the second time), running windows update - which still FAILS to install two critical updates (I've tried 5 times), and then resintalling the latest bios file from the support site - I haven't had any freezes or sound cutting out but I haven't thoroughly tested.

Dock experience - I have not had an issue with the dreaded touchpad going bonkers.  keep in mind I've only been using it an hour or so.  Now one of the Acer reps on here claimed this was a hardware issue, I'm wondering if it is and by chance I got a newer production dock?

i'll say this - the dock is CRITICAL to completing the w510 experience.  Wow, just wow, it increases functionality on the w510 immensely.  I'm sure many of you have used the asus transformer products but a dock is even more useful and "at home" feeling with windows 8.   It really makes this a serious laptop replacement (for light duty tasks).

Oddly enough, my nexus 10 also arrived today, only one of them will stay, not sure which as I'm very impressed with both.  I hope the w510 issues don't pop back up because there is great potential for it to be a fantastic product for the money.

sidenote - yes the touchpad needs multitouch support - but I'm good with it jsut working correctly!

Hi, thanks for posting your experience with the Acer W510. I have one for 2 weeks now and am having the exact same problems as yours i.e. completely freeze multiple times and the sound going off frequently. Where did you find the new drivers and the latest bios file? I know you mentioned the support site but I'm having problems finding it. These issues are driving me nuts and I would be so grateful if you could help me. Thanks in advance!

    http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx

    Product Family: Tablet
    Product Line: ICONIA TAB
    Product Model: W510

There is a drivers tab and bios tab.  I did drivers, then bios (the drivers includes the new bios but I went ahead and did the bios again since it had a more recent date.

Interesting. I've just been using a USB keyboard and mouse for about a month now. Do not recall any freezes except with the recovery disk. Have gotten it confused but that was my fault.

Franky after Windows 8 running everything I can throw at it (hardest was the GPS but was a driver issue) I believe Android & iOS belong in cell phones and toys. Have you seen Windows To Go ? Is the Next Big Thing.

Not to hijack this topic, but has anyone attempted to connect a bluetooth keyboard to the w510?

    Spoiler

Sorry it is the internal GPS that is missing, the W510 has Bluetooth built in.

I tend to lock it when on the desktop if the tablet turns by mistake i find anything Adobe flas related freezes with the sudden skew change in screen. Especially with Firefox. Locking the screen from moving fix this issue for me
