Acer apsire 5349 webcam software update not running

My aspire 5349 runs win 7 and I have just had a message that a new version of the crystal eye software is availabel. I downloaded it and ran it, but it keeps failing at a point where it detects the previous version and asks if I want to uninstall the old one. I click yes and then the machine keeps looping in the same place and constantly pops up with this window to uninstall the old one. Click yes and again the same.

I tried uninstalling through win 7 control panel, still get to the same point, it refuses to uninstall the old one.

Tried using Revo uninstaller as it can get a deeper uninstall when I've encountered this type of problem before-but sitll get to the same point only.

I tried the process with the acer original software downloaded from their site and still the same happens.

I tried uninstalling by deleting the crystal eye webcam directory in file manager and then trying both the new download and the acer software, but still can only get to the same point. I can only get out of the install cycle by clicking no, then it deletes all the previous yes boxes and cancels the installation.

I have no issues with the webcam generally and it works just fine, but you should always as a matter of course update any software as it is only issued for a reason, whether that is to improve it or correct any security issues etc, so I want to do it, it just won't let me.

I've contacted acer help centre by email twice, but they can not help me. They point me to the software location on their site, but I've been using that-something else is at play here that won't let me update the webcam. Maybe it's a security problem with it or is my security program not letting it be uninstalled? I know some webcams have been hacked with people being able to view the users by their own webcams-is this something like that?

    software is Acer.1.5.2904.19458_AVC120510-01

    or Camera_Cyberlink_1.0.1904_W7x86x64

both dont work with my machine si it's something my machine is doing to stop it updating rather than a problem with the update or original software.

As i said before it's running fine now, but I'd like to know why the update won't work.

About when did you purchase the 5349? In what manner did you receive the update message? And do you recall the website from which you downloaded the files?

I bought it about 2 yearrs ago-sorry cant be more specific.

I got the message below (see screen shot) and downloaded it from the acer site I suppose. I also got the original webcam software from the acer support site for my model.

The official acer response is to revert my machine to factory settings and obliterate all my installed files & software which I'm just not going to do. Life's too short. It works so I'll leave it as it is unless anyone can suggest any other solution.

Sorry, all I can see is an image placeholder.

At any rate, your machine already seems to have been shipped with the latest recommended cyberlink version 1.0.1904 as you listed as an update above and as listed on the acer support website for both 32 & 64 bit Win7.

If you revert to original factory setting, you will simply get the latest version 1.0.1904 installed once again from your recovery partitionn.   Which is pointless if the webcam is already working fine and probably why you can't install twice.

I haven't the foggiest idea on why or from where the webcam update notice you got came from. All I can say is your machine seems to already have the latest recommended webcam software installed and on your recovery partition.
