Hello,

I realize this is acer but Gateway's website and chat is of no help. I know the NE72214u-US is shipped with a dvd optical drive but I would like to replace it with a bluray one if possible. I've tried searching for one but all the doors seem to be straight whereas the side of this has a taper. Anyone happen to have a recommendation?

Thank you

    Hi gunite

Gateway is part of Acer, so you're very welcome to post here!

Most laptop optical drives have a removable front bezel, so it is usually easy to replace. If you're in a position to go to a store to see the laptop optical drive, check to see if it's front bezel is removable. If it is an online store, contact them to see if they can advise you.

I've only replaced a couple or so of laptop optical drives over the years, and they definitely were then. And I'm sure one WAS an Acer!

Try using Acer chat, to see if they can advise further (although, I'd guess they're the same people you already spoken to).

Thank you for the advice. I went with a Panasonic UJ260AF plus I installed 16gb of Crucial ram. Now for a UEFI update if possible.
