Help. Aspire V5-571G won't start, don't have recovery DVD.

Hello,

As the family PC maintainer-in chief, I'm posting this on behalf of my sister. She owns an Aspire V5-571G, and since this week it won't start because of a Windows 8 corruption.

She forgot to burn a copy of the Windows 8 recovery DVD. Is there a way to get a copy from Asus? I checked the website, and I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere. Or can I download it from somewhere?

Or, as an alternative, can she buy a copy of Windows 7 and install that?

Many thanks,

Paul

    Hi Paul

I think it's very unlikely for Asus to have a copy of the recovery disk for your Acer Aspire V5-571G Smiley Tongue

Seriously, getting a recovery disk from Acer varies, depending on which region you're in, but if you go to support then click the "Contact Acer" option, you will find ways of speaking to a customer care rep, usually via phone, email or chat (not all regions). Some regions actually have a "Recovery Disk" section!

Where as a recovery disk is a useful thing to have when things go wrong, you may well be able to use the built in recovery partition. Restart your laptop & press & hold ALT & constantly tap F10. This should allow access to the built in eRecovery program.

It is usually possible to install Windows 7, but not as straight forward as it used to be. There is some advice here.

    finlux,

Many thanks for your reply. I'll have her try out Alt-F10 first.
