Acer Aspire V3-771G Random Shutoffs

I've been having an issue lately with my laptop shutting off by itself randomly. No blue screen no logging off screen. Just goes black and restarts. I've checked the CPU Temps and overheating is NOT the problem. The computer itself doesn't even get that hot around the CPU or around the fans. I have ran multiple virus scans, I've restored, I've checked all hardware diagnostics and nothing is showing up. I've re-installed most programs on my computer in hopes that it is a program file causing the shutdowns. Negative. Tried System repair, checked BIOS for system errors. Yet still nothing. I am BEGGING for someone to know why this is occuring. My warrenty ended last year so I can't have it sent in. It seems to happen when running an intensive game so I checked my video card drivers and updated. Still happens.

Despite whatever way you're measuring temp, still sounds like an overheating CPU to me. As mentioned to a few others, may simply be due to dust-bunny buildup around the intake or CPU cooling fan. Try this, it's easy and won't take much time to check out. Vacuum the air intake port and blowing thru the exhaust port. Report back.

I took it apart and cleaned it already and still no such luck.. I was also looking for damaged components and nothing appeared either..

(I do have experience taking apart computers and loads of other technology haha) As I know most would assume that was the problem in the first place as to it being opened up.

I am installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 tonight to see if the problem still persists. I'll keep posted. Any possible ideas that could diagnose or fix the problem would be awesome thanks!!

OK. I assume you've checked out the CPU fan.

I had a similar though not identical situation. It started out as random black screens on cold starts. Then occasionally black screens even with warm reboots. But once running all seemed OK for the rest of the day.

This went on for several months --- everyday being an adventure on whether or not I could get by the black screen. Then one day, I was happily googling and all of a sudden the screen just went black and the machine proceeded to re-boot itself --- but never made it to the OS --- not even safe mode.

Erecovery wouldn't work either. Oh-oh, I'm figuring HDD failure. So I try to fresh re-install Win7 digital river style and it gets me back to where I left off --- intermittant black screens. Intensive scans showed no HDD problems. But I was at least running again but fearful of another sudden shutdown corrupting my hard fought digital river recovery.

To make a long story even longer would probably bore you. So I won't. It turned out to be intermittant conductor break in the video ribbon cable as it wends its tortuous tight path thru the hinge area. Opening and closing the lid too much eventually took its toll on the ribbon. Whoda thunk it? Not me. Not at first anyway. Replaced the cable, re-seated all the other connectors to the MB and peripherals, and ran the machine for a week before re-assembling everything just to make sure it worked OK. It's now been a year with no problems. I just don't open and close the lid as much as I once did--- which by habit was just about everytime I got up and left the machine idle for a while.
