Hi,

I recently had a lot of problems with BSOD's on my acer aspire v3-571G. All of this started after updating to Windows 8.1. Now here's my question: can I reïnstall my Windows 8 on my pc when the recovery partition is gone? (I replaced my HDD with an SSD)

thanks in advance,

Before installing W8.1 did you make your recovery flashstick ?

No recovery set = No recovery.

You could phone up Acer and ask to purchase a set of recovery discs for your computer.  Be sure to have the serial number for the computer handy.

Normally BSOD with 8.1 is down to :

The user did not prepare the computer properly for 8.1  eg: Uninstall nvidia & intel graphic drivers, update to latest bios, make a recovery flash stick in case it all goes wrong.

Potential solution : Go to Acer support driver download page and ensure all 8.1 drivers are fully installed and bios is up to date.  I use the following site for my driver downloads :  http://www.acer.it/ac/en/GB/content/drivers

I have not done a 8.1 update myself and am just referring to all the paperwork around regarding it.

Thanks for your answer. No i didn't do anything before updating my Windows. But i have made a recovery disk before updating it. My recovery disk is a partition on an external hard drive. Will this work?

And if I install all of the drivers listet on acer's website for windows 8.1, and if I update the BIOS, will this solve my problems? Because I always thought updating BIOS is a not without a risk?

I find every action in life we take has a risk associated with it.

Make sure your battery is 100% charged and when you start BIOS flash just leave it alone to complete, have the power adapter plugged in also.

I cannot guarantee the software updates will stop the blue screens, ideally you need to look in the event viewer to see what bsod's you are getting (or use a program like bluescreenview) to get an idea of what is causing the fault.

Your recovery flashstick is a bootable device.  Set your BIOS to boot to flashstick (I enable F12 to boot other devices personally) and boot the stick to get the recovery underway.  Once recovery is done I would then do a fresh clean attempt at W8.1 install using the information you now have - Up to you though.

I guess the best solution is reinstalling my windows from the recovery disk then.. But there's just one thing that's stopping me from doing it: I have a program called Eplan which works with a license i got by email, but would i be able to reinstall that program with the same license after reinstalling my windows? Because the company doesn't like to give a new license for such reasons.

    Thanks for all your help.

Best to speak to eplan quickly first then.  If you let them know in advance they can hardly say no Smiley Happy
