Help! Acer s240Hl can't figure how to adjust monitor display

I bought this monitor and set it up. I can't use the HDMI cable but the other two are installed. It's really hard to get the display controls to come up on the screen but I did find it, yet the keys on my keyboard don't respond to what's on the screen. So I go round and round. This thing is so bright it's killing my eyes..but I can't change any of the settings..any ideas?

I place myself as medium to high when it comes to my computer competence..so this is really frustrating

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

I'm sorry to hear this is frustrating you and hope the steps below will help.

Use the following steps to navigate to the Picture menu to adjust the different picture elements:

    1. Press the Menu button to bring up the onscreen display (OSD).
    2. Use the left and right arrow keys to highlight the Picture menu, then press the Menu button to select this menu.
    3. Navigate to the brightness and other settings you wish to change, then use the left and right arrow keys to adjust the sliding scales.

I don't think this ACER Techniciant really understand what's the actual problem.

Iam facing the same problem too.. I can't control the display brightness of my ACER aspire P3-171.

I tried to control it using the keyboard shortcut, but no respond. I try to find the brightness control on charm, but no icon to control the brightness.

    Pleaase help us,

    brushdi,

You seem to be asking about changing the brightness in Windows 8 with this monitor? That is completely different story. Windows 8 only offers the option to adjust brightness on notebooks and there is no option to do so with desktops. The brightness has to be adjusted from the monitors on screen display itself.

"You can set the brightness and contrast for most monitors using buttons or other controls on the monitor. If you aren't sure how to adjust the brightness and contrast on your monitor, check the manual or the manufacturer's website.   You can also check to see if your PC has an automatic brightness setting.  And if you have a laptop, you can adjust the brightness in Windows." - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/get-best-display-monitor

So with that in mind, the steps I provided should help with adjusting your monitors brightness in Windows 8.
