Wake-on-lan

To start I have already gone into the bios of my Acer V5 552-x814 and enable the WOL feature. I have also gone into the registry and edited the options suggested via http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee851581%28v=ws.10%29.aspx and the same for wired port. When going into hardware manager and selecting the WOL option for wired, it works and isnt greyed out. On the wireless nic card the option is there but greyed out. This apparently could be cause by the drivers (which are microsoft drivers). I have been having a hard time finding Atheros official drivers to see if those would help unlock the feature.

Any ideas?

  • You *may* find this is a safety feature. It is considered extremely unwise to configure a laptop in such a way as it could be woken from sleep while in a case and potentially become a fire risk. I have an M5, also with Atheros, but my drivers are official Qualcomm. The driver has no WOL functionality.

Maybe but i keep my laptop on a cooler and my mother in law lives with us and doesnt work so I am not too worried about a fire. I would just like to be able to remote in if my system is sleeping without having to use a wired connection.

  • Of course. You should be able to configure any way you choose. Just pointing out that my 'official' drivers don't have WOL functionality either and giving a possible reason as to why not.
