hi guys, hope someone can help me with my problem

I have a laptop
Acer aspire 4820TG timeline X
core i5-460M
2.53Ghz, 3mb L3 cache
with switchable video card, you can turn on the intel built in video card and you can also switch to ATI mobility Radeon HD 5650 1gb.
4gig ram
640gb hhd

my problem is that when i play heavy online games using my 1gig video card, my backlight just suddenly turn off, but my computer is still on, only the backlight just went off, i tried pressing Fn+f6 but no luck, i can still see graphics in my laptop if i pust some lights in the screen, i also plug a monitor in my laptop, all went good when i plug the monitor, and when i switch to the built in video card of intel, my backlight just turn on, i have no problem when using my intel built in video card. it just that when im using my 1gig videocard ( ATI mobility Radeon HD 5650) sometimes my backlight just went off,

hope anyone can help me.

Does this only happen with your online games and not any other graphic intense game? Also how long does it take for this to occur while playing your games?

Have you tried updating the graphics driver from Acer's support site?

I would suggest going into your ATI graphics control panel and set the settings for that specific game or games and/or turn off the Intel integrated graphics all together. If the problem persists, I recommend contacting support in your region as it could be hardware related.

Another option but not the most ideal would be trying to restore you Acer to factory defaults by reloading your Acer computer. I would try this only as a last resort before seeking repair.

    -  sometimes when i play youtube video using my ATI video card, it automatically turn off my backlight, when i play games it instantly turn off, or sometimes when my laptop is switch to ATI 1gig vcard,  when you restart it, the backlight will permanently turn off,

    - yes i have tried updating my vcard driver into the latest version but still doesnt work

    - also this laptop is 4 years old now, so no more warranty for this.

    - i also did the reformat this using my image restoration but still no luck.

    Jonax,

It looks like you have covered all the bases and at this time I would have to say it could be the discrete ATI video card that is causing the problem. This would require a repair. I understand you said it was 4 yreas old but I would suggest contacting your regions technical support to inquire about an Out of Warranty repair. This may be cheaper than purchasing a new notebook, if you are happy with the performance and feel its worth keeping.

If you do not wish for repair, then I would suggest to use only the integrated Intel graphics to avoid this problem.
