Turn off mouse hover

Hello Acer world.  I use an Aspire 5742Z-4685 laptop, Windows 7.  I would like to turn off the mouse hover.  I've exhausted suggestions from the world of Google searches, including Microsoft techs with the standard answer of Control Panel/Ease of Use/ Mouse/Uncheck hover option (as you know, was NOT checked).   The system is a Synaptics PS/2 touch pad. The darn thing hovers over emails and sends them a million directions...ya gotta laff at this stuff.

Thanks in advance!  Larss

Have you tried to tweak the synaptics settings from the taskbar or running main.cpl? Try to toggle the click tap on and off and see what happens.

Hello Jack.  Thank you for the tips.  I am not a computer guy, so if you don't mind...could you walk me through those 2 suggestions?   How would I get to the Synaptics program and task bar?    Then  your second idea of the main.cpl ?

    I do appreciate your help.

In the lower right corner of your screen is the task bar. It usually has icons for the speaker, battery and wireless settings along with the time and date. Hovering the mouse over them will tell you what the icons are for. There may be other icons and some that are hidden behind the 2 upper caret symbols on the left side of the task bar. The synaptics icon sometimes has what looks like a red x in a square box with wheels ---  just click on it and see what happens. Report back and then we'll go to main.cpl if you can't find what you want to do there.

    Hi Jack.  Thanks again.
    Synaptics mouse properties:
Double click speed set midway.   Enable pointer shadow, checked.   Motion speed set midway.  Tap to click, checked.

If I am missing any of the important choices, please let me know.

    Thank you again!

Hi Larss. Are you only using the touchpad & keyboard to navigate?

Yes, no external accessories.  Just the touch pad and keyboard.

I gotta tell you, Larss, I couldn't reliably navigate with or control the touchpad on this machine very well either from day one for reasons similar to what you described. I don't do touchscreens too well either. My fingers aren't dainty enough I guess.  I immediately got a Logitech M215 wireless mouse with the tiny usb connector on sale at Target for $8. And that solved my problem.
