[aspire v5 573G] problem with updating BIOS

Hello, all,

I have an Acer Aspire v5 573G running on Windows 7 64bit. I decided today to update the BIOS with that new 'LAN and card reader improved performance' one. Downloaded it, ran it, it flashed my BIOS and now the thing doesnt want to boot up. It shows something like 'default boot device not found, please insert recovery media...", after which it does not find any device - flash, HDD, anything.

I've tried putting the older BIOS on my flash, entering 'crisis mode' (func+esc -> insert power cable) but it does not work.

I've read most BIOS-related things on the internet but they do not seem applicable here.

I've tried chatting with support but the damned serial number isn't valid for some reason even though I bought the laptop last december.

I have no idea what to do here and I'm up for anything.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello windson7,

Did you enter in the bios setup utility and select "Load optimized defaults"?

    Exit and save it.

I just took it to a repair shop and the guy clicked some button combos, got into the BIOS menu and selected Legacy instead of the other option.

    Thanks anyway!
