Touch Pad doesn't track properly

When I move my finger horizontally on the touch pad, the cursor moves vertically, and vice versa. This problem developed only several days ago, up to then everything worked fine. I'm running Win 7 on an Acer Aspire 5733-6424. How can I get it working properly again?

You may try changing the touchpad sensitivity first.

Go to Control Panel-> Mouse-> Click on the Touchpad driver(ELAN/Device settings) tab, then check for the Sensitivity settings and reduce it.

Thanks, I actually already tried this, but it doesn't help. I suspect there's a switch somewhere that changes the orientation of the touch pad but I haven't been able to find anything. Maybe not. Whatever the problem is it sure makes using the computer tough.
