Need help with updates.

 Hi i have an acer aspire V-5-57 1P and would like to know a couple of things. first of all let me start of by stating that i am not very good at using or understanding computers so your help will be very much appreciated. i was browsing through the acer support page and noticed that there is an option to download drivers for the windows 8  acer v5 that i have and would like to know what these are and if i even need to download them. i have not altered my pc in any way so im not sure if this is just for people that mightve deleted something by accident or if its an upgrade to optimize your pc. i also noticed a patch section but that one  is empty . my last question is if i should go on ahead and download windows 8.1 im scared to do so as i've read a lot of people complaining about it making their pc's worse. thank you to all who answer.

You don't need to install new drivers if you don't have any problems, saying that, it's better to install newer drivers if they are available. If the new driver gives any problem, you can always revert back to your original driver.

Updating to Win 8.1 is a good idea, you can update it through the Store, you should always back up your system with Macrium, AOMEI or any other third party utilities to safeguard your data and the ability to revert back to the original state, create a recovery disk as well with those utilities mentioned.
