ACER ASPIRE 1801WSMi Black panel across one sixth of display.

Dear all. This is my first post on this forum. I have an Acer Aspire 1801WMSi, which I have had for quite a few years with little or no problems apart from having to replace the HDD some three years ago. Recently the LCD Display has a black vertical panel exactly one sixth of the screen width. When I connect a monitor into the VGA port, the monitor displays OK. This leads me to believe, rightly or wrongly that the LCD is at fault.

I have dismantled the LCD and checked that the connectors are seated correctly. On reassembly, the fault still persist.

Please could you tell me if my diagnosis is correct and where I would be able to obtain a new LCD unit.

It does sound like the problem is with the LCD panel. You may try contacting Acer UK to see what options of service they have for you. You could also try looking on ebay or doing a google search to obtain parts.
