I'm on a gateway, I know its a acer product since gateway is acer. Its a NE56R with windows 8.. I'm wondering, Why does acer/gateway recommend what they do like to remove the VGA Driver before the update? My computer has intel hd graphics Smiley Happy Current BIOS is 2.15 (Hope this is good enough version to have of BIOS to update to windows 8.1).. But like what would happen if i do update without removing the VGA Driver first thanks.

    Hi michaelrocks0!

If you do not remove the driver before updating to Windows 8.1, it is likely to fail, or your computer will have problems working.

It is best to uninstall, then reinstall the updated driver when complete. Check Gateway support, to see if there are any updated drivers or BIOS for your model.

There is an update for the BIOS but it looks like i am 2 versions of BIOS out of date... Do i just install the latest?  Also can you please tell me if removing the VGA driver would make my computer install the new windows version slowly or not?

No, removing the VGA driver will not affect the actual installation of 8.1.

If you decide to upgrade your BIOS, the lastest one will be fine.

I tried to update a few weeks ago the BIOS.. and i think it gave an error like AC Detection error.. do you think that was because i didn't have my computer plugged in at the time?

Also thanks for the help Smiley Happy

    That's a possibility.

When flashing BIOSes, the power should always be plugged in.

Does when reinstalling a VGA driver do stuff like give option to express install? Does it also include the recommended settings set by Gateway/Acer? Would Express settings be the best option? Smiley Happy  I'm new to reinstalling VGA Drivers and uninstall them..

The VGA driver is just the "standard" graphic driver - there are normally no option to choose whilst installing. Likewise, there are no recommended settings, because it is the user choice - plus the specification of the monitor you use.

Just start the installation, & let Windows do the rest. The only input you need is to select the resolution of choice!

What is best way to remove the intel hd graphics driver?

Like from the Control panel program and features:

    Or from Device manager:
