Acer Aspire v3 771g Hard Drive failure due to heat.

My acer Aspire V3 is only about one year old yet started to give a lot of problems til it eventually failed to start. When I had my laptop inspected I was told that the hard drive is failing and they believed the reason for this was because of the harddrive's close proximity to the heat sources. Bear in mind, I always kept the laptop on a cooling pad in an air conditioned room, so I'm pretty confident that it wasn't as a result of neglect on my part. 

 

My question is: Do you all think this was just a faulty hard drive to begin with or is this heat issue prevalent in the Aspire V3? Also, any help as to how to prevent this in the future (I'm most likely going to have to replace the harddrive) would be most appreciated.

It's probably impossible to say. Personally, if indeed your HDD is failing, I would say it is likely just bad luck and nothing to do with heat. The thermal issues in electronics design can be critical and are never overlooked or ignored. Consequently, in my opinion, you need not be concerned with heat particularly given your operating environment.
