Suddenly Missing NTLDR

Hello it's me again

ok you may of noticed I have been having some problems with my old Aspire E380 after taking the advice and following the suggestions I awoke this morning to a computer that was running like a well oiled machine.

 

I watch some videos and then turn my computer off in the usual way to go and have lunch. Feeling well feed I sat down at my computer to watch more videos.

 

I turned it on and..........a black screen error came up "Missing NTLDR Ctrl+Alt+ Del to start again" there were no warnings of this could happen when last turning it off nothing unusual happened so what could of corrupted it?

 

I am left completely unable to start the computer now, I read a few of the search suggestions and attempted to Ctrl + F10 on start up but nothing happened...

 

Any suggestions?

NTLDR is missing, usually means your PC cannot find the boot loader. Reasons could be a corrupt boot sector/missing boot file, the computer trying to boot from a not bootable device (you've not left any external hard drives or pen drives attached have you?) or worse, hard drive failure. A good start is to check all cables are connected.

 

You can restore missing files from your XP disk, see here on how to do so.

 

To replace the Boot file, see here.

 

If all else fails, remove the hard drive & connect to another PC to find out whether it is accessible. If not, the hard drive may have failed!

Oddly enough I was looking at the same web page you suggested as a solution but I can not find out the letters assigned to the drives I know the Hard drive is H but I do not know the letter assigned to the CD.

 

Any way of finding this out from command prompt?

Tried your second suggestion first as I did not need the drive letters, but sadly it failed to solve the problem. I an utterly astonished that the Hard Drive could break down right now the timing of it is unbelievable.

 

I'll test the HD on the other computer, lol I've spent many days using one computer to find a fix for the other computer none of this is any thing new to me so far I have had 4 hard drives 2 for each comp in the space of about 8 years should this one need another new one I think I'll bin them both and go to a mac.

Edit:

I bite the bullet and resolved to do a new install on this suspect hard drive. I am unable to do this as I see there are no hard drives found during a reinstall set up, so sadly RIP my hard drive may all your saved folders go to the computer heven in the sky.......any know how I could recover some of those fies?
