W511 won't detect external monitor

Ok, this is officially doing my head in!

I'm doing a corporate deployment of W511's and have identified four tablets that fail to detect an external display, either by Fn/f5, Windows P, or by detetcing in the Control Panel.

Other users logging into these tablets have the same issue - which suggests hardware right?

Weird thing is this - I swapped three of these users onto brand new tablets - and they still have the same problem and the new tablet - which suggests some sort of roaming profile issue?

Before I reimage the tablets and re-create their profiles - wondering if anyone else has seen a similar issue.

First swap cables and monitors.

Next check the Windows video driver and see if it is the same for the ones that work and the ones that don't. If you have Windows 8.1 it probably should be Intel Graphics Adapter v9.14.3.1176, If Windows 8 the last four may be .1102 but make sure the ones that work and ones that don't all have the same revision.

Thanks. Yeah, check cables - they work fine with other tablets.

I haven't got a second tablet with me ATM but will check when back at work. I did install the driver pack from the support page. Current driver is 9.14.3.1170 - we haven't taken the step to Winows 8.1 yet.

no luck on the drivers - however I've notied two devices no longer working the Low Power Subsystem DMA Controller and UART DMA. I am having all types of trouble installing these drivers. Seems to be a common prob online.

Would these affect the VGA driver

When multiple problems are happening you may need to do a REPAIR of the operating system. (essntially a reinstall while keeping your data and settings.

Personally, I'd go the Windows store and allow it to upgrade to Windows 8.1 then instal the Acer drivers (download first and save on the disk). That is where most are working now and should cure any driver problems.

We are doing an enterprise deployment so I would prefer to resolve rather than upgrade to 8.1

Re-reimaged a dud tablet and it still has the same problem - identical image to other working tablets.

I have however found that an extrenal USB targus dock does provide an output - although its a bit laggy. At least I have my monitor back whilst we try and resolve the issue.

No question external monitor on HDMI that works with same cable on others should work here if it has an Intel video driver.

Unfortunately I have a W510 running 8.1 so can only say I have seen the same issue if a Microsoft video driver is loaded automagically.

Do you not see anything when you go into "Screen Resolution" other than the local display ?

If not I'd have to suspect a hardware problem, possibly a bad connector.

No, won't detect at all. You don't even get a green light on the monitor when connected.

Although t detects instantly with the usb vga adaptor connected.

I know it sounds like hardware, but one of other uses has now used three tablets and each time the problem occurs. These tablets are straight out of the box and have been tested. The odds of three tablets in totally different batches having the same problem with the one users suggests a profile issue not a hardware issue. I have him using a HP displaylink adaptor via usb - but not a solution.

He does log in and out of a windows 7 machine and the windows 8 tablet with the same profile, I can't imagine something in a user profile corruptng the vga driver or similar - but who knows. It has our whole IT department stumped.
