Well, there could be a couple things that are a cause of the problem.

Is the unit more than 1 year old, if not contact Acer and see about getting support.

If it's not, I would suggest that it might need some TLC (tender loving care); meaning:

    • Clean any case fans.
    • Clean CPU fan.
    • Clean video card fan.
    • Clean power supply fan.

Advanced troubleshooting, requires parts being removed and such:

    • Check to see if the video card GPU needs thermal paste.
    • Check to see if the processor needs thermal paste.

Most people would be surprised how much these maintenance steps can increase the performance of an older unit, especially if it's never been done.

Good suggestions above but when cleaning be gentle use a vacume cleaner with a light brush head but be gentle

I'm not sure how advanced of a user you are for parts maintenance, and if you are, did you check to make sure there was an appropriate amount of thermal paste for the CPU and GPU on your video card?

Depending on the age of the unit that could be what's locking it up. Other than that it could be a hardware problem that may require a part getting replaced. If it's in warranty you can contact Acer at (800) 816-2237 and see about getting that or a repair done on the unit, if it's still in warranty, most desktops carry a 1 year SMW.

    Hi Thunder

Usually, freezing can be caused by:

    1. Faulty PSU

    2. Faulty Hard Drive

    3. Bad Motherboard.

See if you can swap out the current supply with one of a similar power - borrow one or buy one if need be. If the problem persists, then it will be worth looking at a different hard drive, but you will need to reinstall Windows from your back up recovery disks.

If it STILL persists, then it will be a problem with the mobo.
