Can't turn on Bluetooth on Aspire M3985 DESKTOP as I don't have "Wireless" option on PC Settings

I have an Aspire M3985 DESKTOP running Windows 8 and it is Bluetooth capable (listed in my devices). I cannot get any devices to connect to it via Bluetooth. All troubleshooting tips point towards "turning on" Bluetooth via PC Settings and clicking on "Wireless" see http://acer-au.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/26607 for screen shot of what I should see.

I don't see the "Wireless" option...

Any tips on what is wrong? Or has Acer decided to wipe that capability off my desktop? I bought the PC because it had bluetooth capability and am bitterly disappointed that I can't get that working to download pics from my mobile devices without cables (as I don't have any for them).

The information I have available shows that the Aspire M3985 systems shipped with Windows 7.

Does bluetooth work on the shipping operating system?

If you have upgraded to a different operating system, in this case Windows 8, how did you install it?

All of this information will have some bearing on what solution we may be able to provide.

I bought my PC from Officeworks in Toowoomba and it came in a sealed box with OS Windows 8 already installed

I did not install a different OS myself nor have I upgraded 7 to 8.

Unfortunately, while I can see that the system did ship with Windows 8, it has not assisted with determining why Bluetooth would be unavailable on your system. It ships with the appropriate card ( should be a combo WiFi and BT card ).

Are you seeing anything in Device Manager related to Bluetooth?

Yes I'm seeing Bluetooth in Device Manager http://prntscr.com/2rdmcs but I cannot connect anything. All troubleshooting tips advise that I need to "turn on" bluetooth in PC Settings / Wireless but I don't have that option...this is all I see http://prntscr.com/2rdmwq

No I haven't, was trying to get things fixed without being that drastic. I've finally got all my programs loaded and working the way I wanted them to...and factory recovery would wipe all that out wouldn't it? Bluetooth hasn't worked since day 1 so I can't see a factory recovery working anyway.

Will bite the bullet and give it a try on the weekend when I've got some time to work on it.

Yes, it would restore the system to the default factory settings, wiping any data or additional programs.

If you've had the issues since day one, out of the box, it may be a hardware issue. In that instance, you should contact your local Acer service center to have it repaired.

It's easier to try the software route first, just in case.

I have the same problem on another Aspire M3985. I have just tried to use bluetooth and cannot get it working. PC was originally supplied with Windows 8. Since updtaed to 8.1 via the standard Microsoft automatic update process.

The "PC and Devices" settings screen shows Bluetooth in the list. When clicked a screen saying "Manage Bluetooth devices" appears and under that "Your PC is searching for and can be discovered by Bluetooth devices". There is also a row of moving dots but nothing else.

Under Bluetooth in Device Manager are "Bluetooth USB module", "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator" and "Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator".

Yes CGR...that's exactly what's happening on my PC. I'm not willing to do a factory restore due to the loss of programs and data that I've installed since buying the PC. It was like this out of the factory as far as I can tell. Sold as having Bluetooth, but Bluetooth simply won't work.

Extremely disappointing.
