Why does the Internet Wi-Fi access become "limited" every few minutes on my Iconia 700?

I have an Acer Iconia W700 that constantly loses its Internet Wi-Fi connection. This happens at home, at the office, and at the library. At home, I have 5 other devices that connect to the same Wi-Fi access point at home and not one of them has a problem maintaining a connection.

When this happens, I must reset the Wi-Fi adapter. I can do this either by using the Windows 8 network troubleshooter or by manually disconnecting from the network and then reconnecting.

Because the problem occurs at many locations and because no other devices have the same problem at home, it's clear that the problem is the with W700. If this happened once a day, it would be annoying. In fact, it happens every few minutes and this device is unusable because of it.

Incidentally, I tried connecting to Acer Chat and 10 minutes after I clicke "Request a Chat", the page was still "Submitting ...."

After posting this, I found what appears to be the right answer in another thread. Apparently Acer doesn't care enough to comment about it because there are more than 100 responses in that other thread and I didn't see any from Acer.

Hi All,

This worked for me.

Open network and sharing > change adapter settings > wifi adaptor properties > configure > power management > uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

then go to your battery settings

Battery icon > more power options > power saving / balanced / high performance > change plan settings > change advanced power settings > wireless adaptor settings > power saving mode > on battery > change to low or medium power saving (although troubleshoot says medium power saving should fix the problem, I chose the low power saving, so far no hiccups with the "limited" connectivity.)

Just an observation but while Acer techs do monitor the forum, the real way is to submit a trouble ticket to support so Acer has a formal record of the issue.

At the same time remember there are levels of support and the script readers at the first level are there to keep the People Who Know from being bothered since they are working on the next generation.

I am really surprised at the very poor documentation in the User Guide particularly the one page on the BIOS setup, it reads like the writer never actually saw one. My Jeep came with a more comprehensive User Manual.

That said the whole issue of an operating system designed for tablets is liable to surprise people. That it is related to power management is not a surprise. That there is no notification (say a changing icon in the tray) is. But then "User Friendly" is for red fruit. Just be glad you are not dealing with Linux.

I do have a feeling that the W510 was somewhat rushed to market to see what would happen & have a 2012 intro, the W700 seems to be a more "traditional" design. Do wonder why the oddball power/multifunction connector.
