Battery not charging Aspire 5560

My healthy battery stopped charging all of a suddon. Battery life was well over 4 1/2 hours last week. I did not turn on laptop for a week and then the battery was dead and would not charge. All testing indicated a healthy battery and charger, works fine when plugged in.

There was an Acer firmware update that I loaded on Dec 26.

I am running Windows 8.1 I was hoping that a new OS would load new drivers to fix the problem, but the problem started in Win8 (been running Win 8 on this since 12/12)

The bios update will not flash. I have uninstalled and reloaded new drivers for the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method and the ACPI battery , nothing has resolved the issue.

If I had been having battery problems I would take a chance and buy a new battery but this one and the power cord are both really fine. It must be a software, firmware or driver issue.

Any suggestions?????

If you disconnect and remove the battery, then reattach the battery, is there any change?

Generally it is not a software, firmware or driver issue for battery issues. It's usually a hardware issue.

I have removed and replaced the battery. It does not make sense that the battery could be the issue as the battery has not been diminishing power available when fully charged. It was lasting 4 1/2 to 5 hours the previous week. I was away from home and did not use the laptop at all for 1 week. It was unplugged and the battery discharged. When I turned it and plugged it in the battery showed 2% power, and the icon said that the battery is not charging. All research I have done on similar issues show it is not a hardware issue because the battery reports as healthy in system assessments that I have run. I am hesitant to buy a new battery unless I know why. The laptop is 18 months old. Can the battery be tested somehow, somewhere ? A battery should show decreasing charge if it is getting older. What it seems is that the battery internal memory needs to be reset.
