Acer Aspire One ZG5 Display Size

I successfully upgraded my netbook from Windows XP to Windows 7 Home Premium without problems.  However, after increasing the memory from the installed 1GB to 1.5 GB and changing the wireless adapter to one compatible with the 302.11n standard the screen gave a smaller display.  Itead of a visible diagonal of 9 inches (22.9 cm) the machine 'thinks' it has a screen with a visible diagonal of 7 inches (17.8cm). That is a vertical dark border on the right hand side of the screen of 4.2 cm and a partial picture under the main piture.   This happens from power on through the BIOS screens and is not correctable by the Windows 7 Appearance and Personalization settings.  An idenitcal problem was found on YouTube

So is there any resolution to this problem? My ZG5 has just started doing this after I installed an SSD and it's really, REALLY annoying. I've reset all of the ribbon connectors several times but that didn't change anything.

Windows 7 shows a screen resolution of 1024x768, but it won't accept anything larger than 800x420; unfortunately that cuts off the bottom of any screen boxes.
