CD/DVD ROM Drive not detected

Computer will no longer play DVD's or recognise they are in the computer. Have tried troubleshooters and updating drivers but computer doesn't seem to recognise that it has a CD/DVD ROM DRIVE.

Not really sure how long it's been like this as has been a good month or so since I tried to play one. I have an Aspire 5750G laptop.

Any help much appreciated

    Hi swindonforever!

If you've tried all the troubleshooters, and updated drivers, it might be worth re-installing Windows. But if it is still not recognised, then the optical drive will be at fault, and will need replacing.
