Remotely wake up Aspire P3

We have an application where the Aspire P3 is used in a kiosk. Our application needs to be online at all times therefore we run the P3 with power supply and try to eliminate all configuration which may make it go to sleep or hibernate, which would make it disconnect from the network.

However we can never protect ourselves 100% against long-lasting power outages other or uncontrolled shutdowns caused by software or hardware exceptions.

Therefore we are looking for ways to remotely wake (and possibly boot) the P3. Does anyone know whether it is possible to use wake on lan, wake on wlan or wake on power techniques to accomplish this?

Most regular PC:s will at least have a boot on power option in the BIOS. There is no such setting in the P3 BIOS?

Some Qualcomm chipsets support wake-on-wlan but I am not sure whether this is available on the P3.

Any other ideas?

After looking through the P3, documentation, et al, we do not believe that there is any way to facilitate Wake on LAN, Wake on Wireless LAN, or Wake on Power with this system.

Follow up question: Which, if any, of the other tablet PC models from Acer could support our requirement to be able to wake it up by LAN, WLAN or power?

I would think any of the Windows tablet with an appropriate USB to Ethernet adapter would allow the Wake on LAN functionality. WOL for wireless will be more problematic and I don't know if Andriod will support the WOL function on the wired connections.

I have tried this using a USB to ETHERNET adapter (white-labeled to Startech), which does support Wake-on-LAN. Unfortunately it doesn't do the job. I was indeed able to make the Aspire P3 wake up from Power Savings mode, using the Magic Packets of Wake-on-LAN. But I was not able to wake up from Sleep mode or Power Off mode this way.

I notice that the LAN port LED:s shine when in Power Savings mode. Then I can wake it up using WOL. In Sleep and Power Off mode, however, the USB port of the Aspire appears to loose power, and the LED:s on the LAN port come off. I can then no longer wake it up any more.

Thus, if anyone knows how to control the (power of the) USB port with the different energy modes it would help a lot. I think that if the USB power could only somehow be configured to stay on, the Aspire could also be woken up from the deeper modes.

Has anybody else messed around with this?

Try and figure out which USB hub services the USB to Ethernet adapter and tweak the power management settings there. I don't know if you can get WoL working from a full power off state but you might...
