New TC-605 desktop won't boot from USB

Just bought a brand new TC-605 desktop after Christmas. Had a couple of issues on startup.

1. On power up, trying to get to the BOOT UTIL is hit and miss because the "press <DEL> to set up..." message shows up only intermittently. No consistent way to tell when it will and will not. Does it depend on how the system was previously shut down?

2. Cannot boot from USB automatically even though the BOOT SEQUENCE (USB on top followed by Windows disk etc) and SECURE BOOT disabled  options were changed on power up. Are there some other settings missing?

However I was able to boot up from USB by manually hitting F12 and selecting the USB option from the boot menu. I notice there is a latest BIOS update released on 2013/11/12. Could my issues have something to do with the BIOS update?

You do not state which operating system you have on the computer, so I will assume that it is Windows 8.

    1. Please review this article:  Accessing the UEFI (BIOS) setup on a Windows 8 system

    2. The easiest thing to do would be to move the Windows Boot Manager to the bottom of the list.

This would ensure that any drive that you wanted to boot from would load prior to Windows.

Sorry, did not see your reply until now.

The OS is Windows 8. I have made the appropriate booting sequence change ie. USB first, then DVD and Windows Boot manager last. It did not work.

I suspect the following changes in the boot utilities have to be made as well when changing the boot sequence:

    1. create a supervisor password in security
    2. disable SECURE BOOT in authentication
    3. change LAUNCH CSM to "always" in boot

    Please confirm. Thanks.

If the system shipped with UEFI and Windows 8, then yes, you will need to turn Secure Boot OFF in order to boot from USB or optical media.

Thanks, Tommy. yes, the desktop comes with UEFI & Window 8. I will give the entire process a try.
