My 'U" key does not work often

I have an Aspire 7740-5691, 17 inch screen.  It's probably considered old by laptop standards.

Today the "u" key has almost completely stopped working.  About every 1 ot of 10 times does it work on the first tap.  I have to always look to see if the "u" comes p.  If I don't get it the first time then I have to keep tapping the "u" key ntil it does come p.

Is there a way to fix this?  All the other keys work fine.  I don't know mch abot compters so all I've tried so far is to trn off the compter and restart it.

Thanks for any advice.  Since it's a laptop I know I can't simply go ot and by a new "u" key.  Sandra

    Hi..

It seems to be an issue with the U key. You may check with the computer manufcaturer for further available options.

    Hi Sandra60

It sounds as if your keyboard is failing. Take your laptop along to your local PC store. The will replace the entire keyboard with a new one, then all will be good.

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks for your idea.  I already checked with Acer and basically my model is so old (and out of the warrantee period) that they do not have customer support for it.  There is support / help but it costs $49 for help.  I'm not going to do that.

I think replacing my keyboard may be more expensive than just buying a wireless external keyboard (which I have done now).  This Logitech keyboard was only $39.95 and it also has a wireless mouse with it.  It is working so much better.  The "U" key and all the others work great.  I even like the feel of this keyboard so much more than the laptop.  Since my Acer laptop is so old, I may end up getting a new one sometime this year.

    Thanks for your help!
